Friends of Jacaranda Library
History
Frances T. Bourne Jacaranda Library
In 1992, Frances T. Bourne founded The Friends of the Jacaranda Public Library to raise funds to help build and furnish the new library. Through the years, the Friends have continued to raise money to purchase additional items for the library, including books, furnishings, and technical equipment. Most of the children, youth and adult community programs held at the library are sponsored by the Friends. Also, the library and Book Shop volunteers are honored at an annual dinner that the Friends provide.
In 1994, the Jacaranda Library was founded. Later, in 1995, its name was changed to the Frances T. Bourne Jacaranda Library. The change honors and dedicates the library to Frances T. Bourne, a former archivist who helped raise capital for the building.
In 2004, Jacaranda Library received an expansion doubling its original size. Now, the library features a lily pond, walking path, musical garden, and commemorating plaques for our generous donors.
Book Shop
Shop for bargains at the Friends Book Shop. It is one of our main sources of income. Donations of gently used books, CDs, DVDs, magazines, and puzzles are always welcome.
We are a non-profit 501(C)(3) corporation, so all funds from memberships or memorial tributes go directly to the Friends and are tax deductible. Please become a member and help the Friends enable the Jacaranda Public Library to provide the best in library services for our community.
Scenery
The Frances T. Bourne Jacaranda Library is noted for its lovely setting, surrounded by lush native vegetation. The serene pond is filled with Lily pads and visiting herons. Please, take a stroll along our nature walk on the shore and sit on our beautiful benches. Relax and enjoy the lovely views.
